There are several different types of benzodiazepines, including Valium, Xanax, Ativan and Klonopin. They are often prescribed to prevent seizures and treat anxiety. How long a benzodiazepine is detectable in the body depends on the drug, the person’s metabolism and how much that person uses it. On average, benzodiazepines are found in the urine for around 3 to 7 days, though each medication is slightly different.
Benzodiazepines are typically prescribed to treat insomnia or anxiety. Some drugs in this class of medications are used to treat seizures, or alcohol or drug withdrawal symptoms. In the hospital, benzodiazepines can be used to sedate a patient, or help prepare them for surgery.
