What is EDDP?
EDDP is a metabolite of methadone, which means that it is formed when the drug is broken down in the body. It is made in the liver. When methadone is broken down, some of it is turned into EDDP, and the rest is excreted in the urine. The part that is excreted depends on the pH, the dose, and the person’s metabolism. Excretion of EDDP into the urine is not dependent on those factors, so the presence of EDDP can be useful.
Methadone is a synthetic narcotic that is usually used to help opioid abusers end their addiction and stop using. It was originally made during a morphine shortage in the 1940s.
EDDP is detected in the urine around 4-6 hours after use and is no longer detected after 2 to 3 days after use.
